Come join Jack Cowin for the International Day of People with DisAbility event. A day of uniting disability organisations, people with disabilities, businesses, governments and communities in celebrating the achievements of people with a disability

To celebrate International Day of People with Disability, Westcare is proud to present a breakfast with Jack Cowin. Born on July 13th 1942, in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, Jack was married in 1966 and has four successful adult children and five grandchildren. He became an Australian Citizen in November 1981. Jack graduated from the University of Western Ontario in 1964, London Ontario Canada. In 1992 Jack was elected to the UWO Athletic Hall of Fame, he is a member of W Sherwood Fox Society; Foundation Western and holds an Honorary Degree - LLD - 2000 from the University of Western Ontario. Jack spent 5 years working with London Life Insurance Company, Toronto, Canada.

The CFAL group of companies has a sales revenue of $700 million and Net Shareholders Funds of $300 million. The company owns and operates 300 fast food restaurants in Australia trading as Hungry Jack's (250) and Kentucky Fried Chicken (50). In addition, the company franchises 46 Hungry Jack's units operated by 3rd party franchisees. Hungry Jack's is a Master Franchisee of Burger King Corporation for Australia and KFC is a franchisee of YUM International. The company founded the Domino's Pizza business in Australia which had an I.P.O. in May 2005. It has a current market cap of A$170 million and the Cowin Family Trust sold down in the I.P.O. from 74% to 27% ownership.The company also operates three manufacturing plants which produce frozen meat products and processed vegetables for the supermarket, food service industry. The company exports food products to 26 countries and has won several Australian Export Awards. Mr. Cowin is the owner of 97% of the group shareholding. Jack also owns 98% of Torbreck Vintners, a Barossa based wine company. The wines produced (approximately 50,000 cases) are in the ultra premium category and are rated among the highest quality red wines produced in Australia.

Jack was active in Young President's Organisation from joining in 1972. He was a member of International Board of Directors from 1978 to 1988 and was elected International President in 1985 -86 for the worldwide organisation of 7000 members. He was also previously the Chairman of the Sydney Chapter of the World President's Organisation and a director of the international organisation. Jack was elected Chairman of the Australian Taiwan Business Council in November, 1992/95 and remains an ex-officio member of the board. In 1995, he was awarded the Economic Medal, First Class by the Republic of China for his contribution to strengthening of bilateral relations in business between Australia/ROC. Jack holds directorships with the following companies based in Australia: BridgeClimb (40% shareholder), CIBC Australia Ltd, Sydney Olympic Park Australia (SOPA) and is a Govenor of Centennial Parklands Foundation.

International Day of People with Disability was established in 1992 by the United Nations General Assembly to promote awareness of disability issues and the abilities of people with a disability. It is celebrated worldwide on 3 December each year. The day unites disability organisations, people with disabilities, businesses, governments and communities in celebrating the achievements of people with a disability. All proceeds from the event will go to Westcare who have been employing and accommodating people with disabilities for over 60 years.
