Abilities Prove Successful

Kim Cattell - Lifestyle Solutions

International Day for People with Disabilities came early to Forster this year. On Tuesday 29 November, around 115 people gathered at Forster Ten Pin Bowling Club to celebrate the event.

International Day for People with Disabilities is held every year to celebrate achievements and 'abilities' rather than focusing on disabilities and this year people with disabilities across the region had their chance to 'Shine'.

Lifestyle Solutions is a non-profit organisation providing day programs for people with intellectual disabilities and have recently established an Active Lifestyles program at 80 The Lakes Way, Forster. Together with Forster Ten Pin Bowling Club (a major sponsor of the day), Lifestyle Solutions sent out the call to disability services, schools, local community groups and Forster Tenpin league players in the area inviting them to gather together for the Annual Bowling Tournament and the response this year was outstanding. Teams participating this year were: Lifestyle Solutions, Forster Bowling Club, Life Without Barriers, Gloucester PSO (2004 winners), Break Thru Employment Solutions, Great Lakes Leisure & Respite Options, Great Lakes College, Chatham High School, Forster League Bowlers and The Forster Fire Brigade.

After a false count by the judges, the winners this year were Forster League Bowlers Team 2, not Team 1 as it was first thought.

Lifestyle Solutions would like to express a sincere thank you to Chris, Wayne and Maxine of Forster Ten Pin Bowl for their ongoing support for this event and a big thank you to the Forster Fire Brigade who took time out of their busy schedules to join us for a fun day. We look forward to next year when we do it all over again.
