Annette Ellis is Nican's new patron

Canberra MP Annette Ellis was yesterday revealed as the new national patron for Nican at a launch featuring Federal Parliamentary Secretary for Disabilities and Children's Services, the Hon. Bill Shorten MP. Speaking about the appointment, Mr Shorten said Ms Ellis would be a 'fantastic' advocate and publicist for the cause of improved access by people with a disability to leisure, sport and recreation.  Ms Ellis is retiring at next month’s Federal Election and has a long history of involvement with disability and carers issues including an extensive period serving as the former Shadow Minister responsible for disability issues.  Mr Shorten also launched Nican's new national website and innovative campaign called Discover Your Passion, designed to encourage people with disabilities to get out and involved with sport, recreation, arts and community life via Nican's database of more than 4000 access friendly opportunities.
