Do you have an intellectual disability? Do you currently play basketball for a club in Canberra? Do you want to play basketball? Would you like the opportunity to represent the ACT at Ivor Burge National Basketball Championships for persons with an intellectual disability? If you answered yes to any of these questions read on.

There are a number of basketball competitions currently running for the persons with a diagnosed intellectually disability. The YMCA runs a program for beginners and a program for the more advanced in a number of locations around Canberra.

One Basketball Canberra provides competition for intellectually disabled males and females who have the ability and desire to play in a mainstream competition conducted by One Basketball Canberra. The men play in the One Basketball Canberra mainstream men's competition at the Tuggeranong Indoor Sports Stadium on Tuesday nights. The women play at Belconnen Basketball Stadium on Tuesday nights. Training for the men is held on Saturday at the Woden Basketball Stadium from 2.00pm to 4.00pm. Training for the ladies is conducted at the Woden Basketball Stadium on Saturday mornings from 9.30am to 11.30am.

From these competitions the ACT Men's and Women's representative teams are chosen each year to compete in the Australian Basketball Championships for Players with an Intellectual Disability (Ivor Burge Championships). These championships are conducted at the same time and at the same venue as the Australian Under 20 Championships. In 2008 the national championships will be held in Albury from February 16- 23.

The coaches are looking for players who have the desire and ability to represent the ACT, and/or would like to play basketball in any of the available competitions. More information on these programs is available from:
