Beach Wheelchairs in Western Australia
Life's a beach for people with disabilities
The beach wheelchairs and matting pilot project can enable people with mobility diffi culties and their families, friends and carers the opportunity to get on the beach and into the water with dignity.
Come for a swim, have a picnic on the beach or just watch the sunset from the water's edge.
The beach wheelchairs and matting will be available at Leighton, North Cottesloe and Swanbourne beaches. (See timetable below for hours of availability).
The equipment will be rotated between beaches over summer. Come as often as you like and trial all the chairs and locations that interest you.
Surf Life Saving Western Australia provides this equipment free of charge. No assistance can be provided to help with transferring to the chairs or to get over the sand and into the water. Similar to all other beach users you are responsible for your safety. Please come with any assistance you may require. Curtin University students may be on-site to observe and evaluate this project.
Users will be asked to provide feedback on their experience. Information collected will assist in improving access to beaches in the future.
