Country Guesthouse Schönegg opened four new guest rooms including 1 room which complies with Australian Standard 1428.1 for accessibility. Country Guesthouse Schönegg also has another room which is partly compliant and may be suitable for many individuals with mobility restrictions. Further specific information can be obtained from hosts Richard and Evelyn Everson.

The project has been partially funded with a grant from the Australian Tourism Development Program. The four new rooms and private guest lounge will compliment the existing two rooms at the purpose-built guesthouse in Murrumbateman.

Richard Everson, former Michelin Star Chef and joint-owner of Schonegg said that they were excited to see the builder’s dust settle.

“The grant has been great, it allows Evelyn and I to better cater for the demand on our rooms,” he said. “We have been over-booked almost every weekend for the last two years; it will be great to have four more rooms available for guests.”

One factor that has contributed to Country Guesthouse Schönegg’s success is Evelyn and Richard’s international hospitality experience.

“We make sure our guests don’t need to worry about a thing when they stay with us,” said Evelyn Everson. “Guests enjoy the comforts of 4 & ½ star accommodation and an elegant fine-dining dinner menu. For breakfast we offer a continental buffet and an a la carte menu. We’ll even pack a gourmet picnic hamper for those venturing out to explore our wonderful district.”

For special occasions Evelyn and Richard will create a ‘fantasy menu’ for their guests.

“We often have guests who yearn for particular dish – pheasant or crayfish for example, or who have very strict dietary requirements - we are able to work with them to create exactly what they are after,” said Richard.

Country Guesthouse Schönegg has been recognized at the Canberra and Region Tourism Awards for the last four years and this is the third year they have been presented with a visitor experience award.

Nestled on 8 rural hectares just half an hour from Canberra, the B & B is open 7 days, while Café Schonegg is open to the public for lunch and dinner Friday and Saturdays and for lunch on Sundays.
