IDPwD 2012 - Nican supplement gets people talking

Date posted:
12 December 2012

With 2012 being the 20th anniversary of International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD), Nican wanted to ensure the Day's messages of access and inclusion reached as wide an audience as possible.

Running the theme "Let's talk about disability", a 12 page Canberra Times supplement  served as a reminder that everyone can take part in helping to shape a more accessible and inclusive community.

The centre spread of the supplement featured a handy poster with facts about disability and ageing, as well as steps that readers could take right now to improve access and include people with disability. The changes suggested in the Canberra Times feature may be small, but for people with disability, they can make a big difference and help create "great workplaces with positive cultures".

We have been delighted with the response to the supplement which was produced by Nican in partnership with The Canberra Times and with the support of the ACT Government through Disability ACT, the Australian Government Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs and a range of sponsors and advertisers.   We would especially like to acknowledge the editorial staff from The Canberra Times for being so great to work with.  We acknowledge our many contributors including the artists featured in the supplement as well as those who took part in Vox Pops. We also acknowledge Photoability for generously providing inclusive images in the supplement, and those who allowed images and artwork to be used.
