Nican is seeking an enthusiastic and creative person who is comfortable with innovation, working with people and has skills in training and community development for a new project designed to address barriers and confidence issues faced by people with disabilities in accessing recreation activities in Canberra. The project will develop a 'Know Before You Go' Resource kit for people with disabilities in the ACT; hold a series of Learning Circles which will encourage people with disabilities to explore the recreational activity of their choice using these materials; and offer training to ACT based providers of sports, recreation, tourism, arts using Nican's inclusive recreation guidelines. This is an opportunity to further develop gain skills in project management, community development and training through an innovative project; work with a senior project manager; build extensive contacts with trainers and disability organisations and there is potential for flexible working arrangements (including some work from home, provided the project outcomes are met), plus a family friendly team. The position is part time (12 hours a week) and offers an attractive remuneration package that will be negotiated based on skills, abilities and experience. The successful candidate will be offered a fixed term contract from January till August 2011. The position will involve meetings with the project manager, attendance at training and work with learning circle participants so a car with comprehensive insurance and current drivers license is required. A current security clearance and/or willingness to undertake a police check is also required.
