Gasworks Arts Park seeks a qualified part-time project officer to coordinate the Art of Difference disability arts program at Gasworks and beyond. The applicant must have a working knowledge of disability arts. The role entails organising meetings and managing the AOD steering committee, coordinating current and future projects and programs for Art of Difference, including festivals, forums and conferences. The successful candidate will have a knowledge and enthusiasm for community-based arts practice, issues facing professional artists with a disability, experience in writing funding applications, setting and managing budgets, the ability to prioritise, work autonomously, within a small team, and high-level interpersonal and communication skills. Flexible work place arrangements and hours are negotiable. Gasworks is an accessible venue.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

1. POSITION: ART OF DIFFERENCE COORDINATOR
  • 1.1. Duration of Contract: Two days per week to 31 December 2007
  • 1.2. Position Supervisor: Director, Gasworks Arts Park
  • 1.3. Position Relationships:
    Internal relationships:

    The Art of Difference Coordinator works cooperatively with Gasworks Arts Park staff and the Art of Difference Steering Committee to coordinate activities associated with Art of Difference, including forums, ongoing meetings, networking and partnership opportunities, and fundraising for Art of Difference activities at Gasworks Arts Park.

    External relationships:

    Disability support organisations, community groups and organisations, artists and arts organisations, Federal and State departments and agencies, Art of Difference committee members, and City of Port Phillip Officers relevant to the Arts & Disability Program.

    Flexible hours and work place arrangements are negotiable. Salary range upon request.

2. PRIMARY OBJECTIVES
  • 2.1. To coordinate Art of Difference activities for 2007 and beyond, including putting in place planning for a major event in 2008..
3. RESPONSIBILITIES
  • 3.1. Co-ordinate Art of Difference activities
    • 3.1.1. Contact artists and organisations regarding collaborations with Art of Difference
    • 3.1.2. Prepare funding applications to support Art of Difference programming
    • 3.1.3. Schedule meetings, take minutes, provide support to steering committee members
    • 3.1.4. In cooperation with the Marketing & Development Manager, make relevant funding applications to local, State and Federal agencies and benevolent institutions where necessary.
    • 3.1.5. In cooperation with the Marketing & Development Manager, pursue sponsorship support for events, and in the marketing of them where requested.
    • 3.1.6. Work within set budgets
    • 3.1.7. Perform other duties at Gasworks as agreed with the Director
  • 3.2. Programming of the Art of Difference Events
    • 3.2.1. Work with the Steering Committee and Directorf in the programming of Art of Difference events, including forums and collaborative activities with other organisations and artists
    • 3.2.2. Distribute promotional materials through networks
    • 3.2.3. Devise documentation plan for Art of Difference events.
  • 3.3. Reporting
    • 3.3.1. Provide short monthly reports regarding activities and financial matters as requested.
    • 3.3.2. Cooperate with the Marketing and Development Manager and Director in the development of market research programs, and compile statistical information on, and gain feedback from, event participants.
    • 3.3.3. Assist with preparation of acquittals of funding grants as requested.
    • 3.3.4. Write an evaluative report at the conclusion of events
  • 3.4. Other duties as agreed with the Director or Programs Producer
4. ACCOUNTABILITY AND EXTENT OF AUTHORITY JUDGEMENT AND DECISION MAKING.
  • 4.1. It is the responsibility of the Art of Difference Coordinator to work within a mutually agreed work plan.
  • 4.2. To liaise regularly with the Director, Steering Committee and other officers on issues affecting the Art of Difference program.
5. QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • 5.1. Essential
    • 5.1.1. Knowledge of and enthusiasm for community-based arts practice and experience in the development and organisation of projects and events in a disability context;
    • 5.1.2. Demonstrated management and administrative experience;
    • 5.1.3. High-level interpersonal skills and experience of working with a diverse range of people;
    • 5.1.4. Demonstrated experience in setting and working to budgets;
    • 5.1.5. Knowledge of State, Federal and other funding sources, and experience in writing grant applications;
    • 5.1.6. High-level verbal and written communication skills;
    • 5.1.7. Computer and software literacy (Microsoft / PC);
    • 5.1.8. Ability to work autonomously;
    • 5.1.9. Ability to prioritise, to set and meet deadlines; and
    • 5.1.10. Ability to work comfortably in a small team environment.
