Northern Interaction Support Association Inc

Acronym:
NISA

The Northern Interaction Support Association or NISA is a support organisation, initiated and run by parents who have a son or daughter over the age of 18 years with an intellectual disability, in the northern metropolitan region of Perth. The organisation, which was incorporated in 1991, arranges outing for its members on alternate Saturdays. Efforts have been made to secure funding so that a responsible and trained young person can be employed to supervise the members of the NISA Saturday Group. The parents try to organise the kind of activities in the community, which are enjoyed by all teenagers, like going to the movies. The emphasis of the activities is on independence and public transport is used wherever possible. The members usually meet at Warwick Station and take the train to Perth for their outings. Expenses incurred by each member during the outings are paid for by his or her parents. NISA is run by parents and meetings are held each term at the homes of parents involved.
