Cobaw Community Health Service

Categories:
Acronym:
CCHS

A service bringing together the skills of a team of health and welfare workers to promote health and wellbeing throughout the community. The emphasis of the service is not upon sickness but upon enhancing the enjoyment of life for all people. The Cobaw Community Health Service provides a range of health services, including health education, support for people with disabilities, programs for early detection of disease and access to health and welfare resources. Individual workers are available to provide direct care, advice, counselling and support. Cobaw Community Health Service has a community development role in encouraging groups in the community (eg industries and councils) to accept responsibility for evaluating factors within their control that may constitute health risks. The Service may also function in the role of advocate for individuals or groups experiencing difficulty being heard on issues which affect their health and welfare. Each Wednesday at 9.30am, a group of enthusiastic walkers set off from Cobaw Community Health Service. The walks are usually 6-8kms long and take a couple of hours. The 'Strollers' and 'Ramblers' leave at 10am for less vigorous walks over shorter distances.
