The National Office for the Australasian Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine is in Sydney with branches in all States excepting Tasmania.A specialist in rehabilitation medicine is one who has had advanced training in the comprehensive management of disability, has a sound background in clinical medical skills, knowledge and attitudes, and is experienced and trained in those particular clinical aspects of medicine, surgery, community medicine and psychological and social aspects of disease which relate to the prevention, assessment and management of disability. A specialist has the ability to organise and administer a comprehensive rehabilitation service, deploying and integrating a multi-disciplinary team striving for optimum outcome, working in close collaboration with medical colleagues, allied health professionals and others in the development of rehabilitation programs and making regular reviews of rehabilitation goals, and has those attitudes which see the accessible person's problems as a challenge.
