Computer Assistive Technology Services

Acronym:
CATS

The Computer Assistive Technology Services (CATS) is a resource centre for computer based technology and communication options.Staffed by occupational therapists and speech pathologists it aims to provide practical recommendations and support to people with disabilities and their teams. This service offers advisory sessions for individuals and their teams, in addition to classroom or group home consultations to look at the role of technology and communication options in these settings. All appointments discuss and demonstrate benefits of technology and related equipment as it applies to home, work or leisure pursuits. Regular tours of CATS which provide an overview of assistive technology are scheduled throughout the year. Equipment can be hired for a short time to enable people to trial the items they want and be sure they are suitable before buying. Training sessions can be arranged to assist the person to set up and use assistive technology equipment. Workshops, lectures and training can also be arranged.
