Disabled Alternative Road Travel Service (NSW)
Disabled Alternative Road Travel Service (DARTS) provides transport for people with physical disabilities.It aims to assist people who are isolated in their homes, to be more independent and more involved in the community, and take part in educational, social, and recreational activities. A program of activities and day trips and shopping trips are organised. DARTS also seeks to provide volunteers to accompany people who use wheelchair on daily outings. Adults in wheelchairs are invited to ring the coordinator to join. Currently, the service owns three buses with hydraulic hoists and wheelchair clamps, each carrying five wheelchairs and eight seated. These buses are used up to seven days of the week. Voluntary drivers and helpers are always welcome and needed. Volunteer helpers are asked to attend a short session on handling wheelchairs.
