Family Advocacy

Family Advocacy is a statewide, community-based organisation which is concerned with the needs, interests & rights of people who have a developmental disability. Its aim is to achieve positive social roles for children and adults who have a developmental disability through the development of advocacy by families and by strengthening the knowledge, influence and role of the family. Family Advocacy runs information sessions and advocacy-based workshops for families, provides telephone advice to individuals, produces resource material and a newsletter, has a resource library of articles, books and videos (The Inclusion Collection). Resource library is available to families, people with disabilities, workers in this field and students.In addition, Family Advocacy makes representations at the government level so that change is made to legislation, policy and services to gain better quality lifestyles for people with developmental disability.
